In a star-studded (possibly, don’t ask me if Dean Gaffney was there) event at London’s Old Truman Brewery last night, the glitterati of the hospitality design raised their glasses to honour the Oscars of the restaurant and bar design world. A world we have a vested interest in. We like to eat and drink in fine looking surroundings goddamnit.
A host of We Heart favourites were amongst the winners in various international categories at 2015’s Restaurant & Bar Design Awards: Clapham’s WC Wine & Charcuterie took the gong for London bar, The Americas restaurant prize went to mental Mexican bone den Hueso, and Sydney duo ACME and Archie Rose Distilling Co. collected the Australia & Pacific restaurant and bar awards respectively.
The highest honours were bestowed to Dandelyan — Design Research Studio’s luxuriant bar at Mondrian London at Sea Containers — and Antwerp’s The Jane, a decadent former chapel transformed by Studio Piet Boon, collaborating with .PSLAB and Studio Job. With the champagne sank and the tuxes sent off to the cleaners, here’s to another year of stellar food and drink design projects. Hiccup.
