Remember that thing that the dad out of Gremlins invented? The Bathroom Buddy; a Swiss Army Knife for the travelling salesman. Well. Sometimes, merging everyday items is a good idea — albeit not toenail clippers and toothbrushes. Sorry Mr Peltzer.
Washington, D.C. designer Trey Jones likes simple things, and has thrown two of them together in his Frame Planter Side Table. The name says it all.
Seeking to elevate the humble terracotta plant pot, “both figuratively and literally”, Trey Jones’s love for indoor greenery and minimal aesthetic sees the designer putting the everyday planter on a pedestal — an American white ash and marble pedestal. So oft cast to a dark corner, the terracotta pot is held aloft, like an offering to the Gods of design. Take me as your sacrificial forgotten design classic. Place your phone and keys next to me.
Jones, who launched Trey Jones Studio just this year, is big on planters — also offering short and tall versions without the side table, along with outdoor Origami planters in weathering steel and copper variants. A blossoming talent.
