Feast of Merit is the Melbourne restaurant-bar that gives back; a social enterprise where the intentions are as good as the grub. Inspired by a festive ritual (check our original story for more on that heart-warming ceremony) in Nagaland, northeastern India, their profits go to support local entrepreneurs in Australia, East Africa, South Africa and the Pacific; seeking to improve the lives of those living in poverty.
It is also a thoroughly good looking, and incredibly popular spot. And when you’re doing good things, the only way is up. Literally. Local studio Siren Design and construction outfit Schiavello have transformed FoM’s rooftop into something very lovely indeed; embracing Richmond’s heritage (the bar includes a section of the Melbourne Cricket Ground) and pulling off that gritty cool that Australians do so well.
Greenery and festoon lighting bring with them the perception of the great outdoors, offbeat artwork counters it with a dose urbanism. Feast of Merit Rooftop’s middle east-inspired snack menu offers up treats like cured Tasmanian ocean trout with ras el hanout; locally-sourced wine and craft beers are on hand to wash it all down.
Feast of Merit Rooftop bar is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 5pm till late; Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3pm till late.
