A horseshoe shaped bar, open kitchen, and shots of colour are some of the main design features at Morito Hackney Road; its interiors a collaboration with artist Dillwyn Smith, Hackney-based designer Sam Newton contributing through the design’s early stages.
Following in the footsteps of esteemed siblings Moro and Morito on Exmouth Market, the Hackney Road eatery serves dishes with North African, Southern Spain, and East Mediterranean flair — chef proprietors, Sam and Sam Clark explaining that, ‘the new Morito on Hackney Road will have some of the food and design elements that Moro and Morito are known for, but with some exciting differences: inventive dishes and new ingredients.’
Those new dishes will include made-to-order Moroccan breads, tapas, and mezzo plates like asparagus with clams and homemade halloumi with pickled za’atar; so exceptional is some of the sourced produce, that it’s yet to be available in the capital. With Emily Harman — former sommelier at The River Café — at the wine list’s helm, we’re told the selection on offer are almost as tantalising as the menu itself.
