Located on the city’s high-spirited Robertson Quay, recently opened M Social Singapore — designed by Philippe Starck — has 293 guestrooms; characterised by high ceilings, the latest technological advancements, and plenty of that showy Starck attitude.
Split into four categories — Nice Room; Nicer Room; Big Room; and Bigger Room — they feature things like pashmina throws and deluxe carpets, neutral tones, and luxury amenities; the ‘higher category rooms’ will bag you a leafy terrace, and all rooms are equipped with a complimentary smartphone amenity that comes with unlimited data and calls. A Singapore city guide has been preloaded on said device for guests to take out and use on the hop — a committee of media-led tastemakers pointing out places of note for culturally-minded Millennial travellers.
M Social Singapore strides confidently into the city state with two firsts: the first hotel to offer a self-check-in kiosk, the first time Uniqlo has collaborated with a hospitality brand, the Japanese designer/retailer having kitted out the entire front-of-house team. Two sculptures (of bronze peanuts nonetheless) flank the hotel entrance, whilst the public spaces feature Starck’s signature fanciful interiors, the French designer commenting: ‘M Social will be the new and vibrant place in Singapore where elegance, creativity and technology meet to offer a unique experience to our global smart tribe.’
Beast & Butterflies, the hotel’s restaurant and bar offering, brings to the table a menu jam-packed with eastern and western influences and artisanal cocktails — all overlooking the Singapore River in a space filled with communal tables, fancy artwork, and a feature open plan kitchen.
