London-based designer Max Lamb introduced a new collaborative project at The London Design Fair last week; the Campione chair for Pedretti Graniti, part of an initiative with Trentino Collaborations to connect British designers with manufacturers in the northern Italian province.
The chair, made using Tonalite Granite, highlights the three-dimensional skills, techniques, and facilities of Pedretti Graniti; whilst the finishes — which include 4-axis wire saw-cutting, polishing, sand blasting and chiselling (among others) — enabled Lamb to make the most of the industrial and handcraft processes available … thus creating a design-led, cutting-edge object that straddles the line between art and design.
The collection was shown at this year’s London Design Festival (alongside works from other collaborators Sebastian Cox, Lucy Kurrein, and Giles Miller) in specially-commissioned wooden structures inspired by the large-scale, natural sculptures on display at Trentino’s open-air art exhibition Arte Sella — which aims to benefit all those involved — Lamb telling us: ‘I agreed to take part in this project because for me it is very much a personal challenge to try and offer a service to a manufacturer and to help them communicate with a wider audience.’
