With restaurants spanning the width and breadth of the UK, Handmade Burger Co.’s philosophy is a simple one: serve the tastiest burgers using fresh ingredients, and locally sourced produce. It’s this honest and authentic approach that Brown Studio kept in mind whilst designing the brand’s most high profile site to date; Birmingham’s Grand Central station.
The designers claim their budgets are typically 30%-40% less than those spent on most high street restaurant chains, so are proud as punch that they sizzled the opposition at this year’s Restaurant Bar Awards; taking away the accolade for Best Restaurant in a Transport Space.
Challenged with producing a design that was relevant to the eatery’s location, and focussing on great design elements on that minimal budget, London-based design consultancy Brown Studio affixed their thinking caps firmly into place and sourced a raft of reclaimed materials; resulting in an all-round industrial feel which, mixed with Americana and travel influences, gives the restaurant a tantalising rawness that offers a less polished look than its big name burger rivals.
