Occupying an enchanting 18th century building, accommodation project Santa Clara 1728 features six staggering suites across one imposing ‘home’ in the heart of Lisbon’s historic and cultural centre.
Santa Clara is from the same team behind renowned designer accommodation projects like Casas na Areia and Casa No Tempo, and once again sees them teaming up with their friend, Portuguese architect Manuel Aires Mateus; who respected the long-standing heritage of this imposing building whilst working its aesthetic rebirth.
Adding tranquility and a touch of the familiar to Santa Clara 1728; Aires Mateus’s aim is for guests to be comfortable, feeling as though they’re spending the night at a friends home rather than in the confines of a hotel. Award-winning Italian lighting designer Davide Groppi created a site-specific system that gives depth to the space; each bespoke element bathing the space in a soothing simplicity of weightlessness and emotion.
Surrounded by historic monuments, churches, castles — and with breathtaking views over the Tagus River, — Santa Clara 1728 evokes the countryside calm of the group’s design-led retreats, splashing those sensibilities all over a well-situated city centre hideaway.
