With its menu brimming with seasonal, fresh and creative grub, Hawthorn East eatery Lightyears is a sleekly-designed spot to take a breather from the everyday stresses of life; devouring damn fine food and drink whilst you’re at it.
Open daily until 4pm, start things off the right way at this Melbourne café — the menu offering the likes of fruit bowls, bircher muesli with organic natural yoghurt, and matcha waffles — whilst come lunchtime, Lightyears’ chicken cobb sandwich, soft shell crab burger, or ox cheek black bean eggs benedict cater for the work-lunchers and late risers; plenty of wholesome goodness to satisfy pesky hunger cravings.
ZWEI Interiors Architecture designed the sensational space, which evokes the sense of the universe beyond; utilising the existing building shell as the backdrop, before inserting material that playfully references the texture and form of both organic moonscapes and man-made space travel. Ambient colour tones and lighting complement simple design details, allowing customers to sit back, let go and reflect on the ‘otherworldliness’ this bold interior evokes. Melbourne designer Sally Piskuric provided the café’s graphic identity.
