Having started life as a pop-up, attracting queues of aficionados who’ve dubbed theirs “the best fried chicken in London”, Butchies have finally opened their first permanent space on Rivington Street in Shoreditch.
Featuring tones of green, designers Block1: Design were keen to make a shift away from the usual red associated with chicken-shops, and inspiration was found in the unlikely location of the Berlin underground. Playing with scale and colour whilst retaining as much of the building’s original character as possible, diners can devour some of the city’s best buttermilk-fried chicken in a fresh setting of exposed walls, neon, and custom wall lights.
Alongside Butchies’ renowned sandwiches, The Original (served with garlic and herb mayo and house pickles), Jenny From The Block, and BBQ Sunset (from the evening and weekend menu) set the tastebuds kicking and the fingers licking; a choice of salads, wings, sides, veggie treats, cocktails and craft beers complement the poultry Garrett and wife Emer have rightly made famous.
