Defining that old adage of ‘small but perfectly formed’, Williamsburg bar and restaurant Little King is attracting locals and those in the know who’re on the hunt for well crafted cocktails and excellent grub in a laid-back environment.
Run by Sam Esterman and John Moskowitz, friends who’d not seen each other in over 20 years, before ‘bumping’ into one another looking for restaurant spaces, the food menu features small-plate dishes inspired by American and Southeast Asian favourites, and a hyper-seasonal menu which chef Philip Vernier changes to accommodate his adventurous tendencies and high-end skills; whilst the drinks list boasts classic cocktails with a twist, natural wines, and artisan beers.
Combining olde world glamour with contemporary aesthetics — designer Christina Salway scouring markets for vintage pieces and pairing them with slick lighting and seating — Little King manages to stand out from the crowd without turning its back on it. Esterman, Moskowitz, and cohort Vernier have crafted, with Salway’s assistance, a petite Brooklyn haunt that is entirely comfortable in its own skin; a little self-assured spot with a small footprint but big attitude.
