Owing to the building’s flatiron shape, all guest rooms at Proper‘s new high-end design hotel for San Francisco boast killer views of the City by the Bay; the property shape-shifting into its surrounds and exuding maximum west coast cool.
With Kelly Wearstler (who’s weaved her magic on projects such as Hollywood Proper Residences and Viceroy Miami) at the helm of the lavish interior design, the San Francisco Proper reflects both its building’s heritage and the city’s current cultural influences, with design elements that include a fusion of French and European pre-modernism and Cubism, a historic lobby restored by local artisans, artwork by Bay Area artists, and Wearstler’s custom-designed wall coverings that complement her own furniture and sourced vintage pieces alike.
The food and beverage scene at San Francisco Proper pays homage to the city and its colourful history, looking to the Bay Area’s bountiful influences and ingredients as an array of inspired menus are offered; from creative contemporary American cuisine at Villon to home-made sandwiches, salads, and small plates at La Bande, and on to craft cocktails and bites (created by Jason Franey of Restaurant 1833, Canlis, and Eleven Madison Park) at Charmaine’s, the 3,400 square foot rooftop bar and lounge that looms over frenetic Market Street with 280-degree city views and year-round opening.
Centrally located in the Mid-Market area, close to BART and high-end dining and shopping options, the first major high-end design hotel to open in the city for some years, San Francisco Proper Hotel is a properly good addition to the Golden City; a flagship hotel bringing together its neighbourhood and discerning, design-savvy travellers.
