A new Kyoto hotel blurs the lines between coworking, co-living and the traditional hospitality concept; KAGANHOTEL a residency-based multipurpose arts facility that is home to emerging artists—currently from Japan and America—who have studios, spaces to exhibit, and accommodation within the property.
Also opening its doors to the curious public, the hostel-style rooms at KAGANHOTEL are minimal but design-minded, with bunkbeds and function over form. The young artists, meanwhile, live out of private rooms on the third and fourth floor of the property, which is located close to Kyoto Central Wholesale Market in the Suzaku Hozo-cho neighbourhood of the city and boasts good access to the rest of the island.
A creative hub for rising artists, KAGANHOTEL enables its residents to hone their skills whilst developing a network of interested parties, bringing together art lovers and art practitioners from around the world. Exhibitions dominate the ground floor and basement, and after an initial open call will feature the work of the first six artists selected for the artists-in-residence programme.
We Heart wishes fashion photographer Hanako Kimura; water colour painter Keith Spencer; calligrapher Saori Kunikiro; photographer Masashi Mihotani; multi-media artist Genki Sato; and oil painter Shintaku Kanako all the best … emerging creative talent of any discipline interested in a residency of up to six months at KAGANHOTEL are invited to make an application at any time.
