Whilst the world around us may be looking very different at the moment, there’s at least one constant throughout these unprecedented times: the A’ Design Award and Competition. Having wrapped up another year—the 2019-2020 edition now complete—the world’s largest competition of its kind has awarded another impressive selection of designers, architects, and design-oriented teams from all over the world.
The judges are made up of esteemed members of the press, experienced academics and design industry leaders, and all on-board must have had a difficult task awarding this year’s many entrants. Spanning five categories—Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and A’Design Award (as well as a Runner’s Up A’Design Award)—over 12,000 designs were recognised, each one taking away one of the aforementioned honours, and now set to receive a host of benefits including a 3D-printed trophy; extensive PR opportunities; a place in the award’s annual hardcover yearbook of best designs; global recognition from peers; and that coveted invitation to the annual Gala event.
Another year, another ruck of design talent on display. From a Kaws character making an appearance in Beck Lyu, Alan Qin and Xinhao Ye’s bar design concept to the sustainable and striking Future Is Now Living Lab Living Lab by Daisuke Nagatomo and Minnie Jan; Danyang Ma’s excellent Strange Poster Series to the bold and ballsy Love&wash Packing by Alexander Cherkasov; whether it’s inspired interiors or forward-thinking fashion, audacious architecture proposals or neat product design, the multitude of disciplines honoured at the A’ Design Awards & Competition makes for a yearly compendium of inspiration and eye candy.
