Set across three historical buildings in downtown Hudson, New York, The Maker Hotel arrives from the hands of Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg of lifestyle and beauty brand Fresh, alongside hospitality giant Damien Janowicz. An all-round luxurious affair, the intimate 11-room property is spread over 14,000 square feet, and features original architectural elements combined with work from local Hudson Valley craftsmen. An eclectic guest experience, The Maker Hotel is as much for the close-knit Upstate New York community as it is for discerning travellers.
Moving away from a standardised design, the hotel blends styles of 19th century industrial, la belle époque, art deco and mid-century modern to arrive at its own distinctive aesthetic. Its rooms range from the Maker Studios to Terrace Lofts, Two Bedroom Suites to a Corner Studio, and each are inviting sanctuaries filled with vintage and antique pieces works of art, lush plants, and amenities including full-size Fresh beauty products, a gourmet mini-bar, a Zen Haven organic mattress, and the ‘Eye-Opener Service’; an early morning wake-up call complete with freshly made coffee and pastries.
“We knew we could execute The Maker concept in Hudson because the area was so rich with artisans, history and design, and it was the perfect location,” explains Lev Glazman. The team at the hotel worked with local craftsmen to create an unexpected feel; an old-world bohemian glamour that fuses a worldly design ethos shaped by decades of travel, where a sixth-generation master furniture restorer has rebuilt original fireplace mantles, antiques and custom furniture; where a local artist has painted an ethereal mural inspired by Hudson Valley landscape. Craft and vision comes together in impeccable style.
A huge reconstruction was required to connect the 1800s Carriage House, Georgian mansion and Greek Revival building, as well as fresh add-ons that include a seasonal pool, jewel box-conservatory and central lush courtyard local; experts Lagonia Construction instrumental in rebuilding the space and restoring its handsome buildings.
Completing the offerings, executive chef Michael Poirkoff oversees food and beverage operations at The Maker Hotel, guests and locals privy to a cocktail bar and patio located in the Carriage House; a café open for breakfast and lunch serving pastries, sandwiches and salads; and The Maker Restaurant, which is located in the lavish glass-ceiling conservatory and serves up contemporary American fare that Poirkoff sources from local farms and purveyors to offer the very best seasonal produce to diners.
A momentous project of classical refinement for Upstate New York’s unforgettable Hudson Valley; one for everyone’s post-covid bucket list.
