A creative hub for guests and locals alike, Montcalm East is a new 288-room property in Shoreditch, London; a hotel with a mission to support its vibrant neighbourhood by championing the creativity and creatives of the surrounding area.
A member of Autograph Collection, the striking hotel has undergone an extensive refurbishment and reopened its doors in May 2021, showcasing interiors by Shoreditch-based studio, Blacksheep; a photographer-in-residence programme in collaboration with Ravensbourne University; and an art collection curated by Culture A.
Set across eight categories, bedrooms are flooded with natural light thanks to the building’s distinctive diagonal windows. Rooms boast floor-to-ceiling city views, mood lighting, minibars stocked with an East End edit of drinks and treats, and Nespresso machines with on-the-house Flying Horse Coffee pods. Bathrooms are kitted out with drenching rain showers and underfloor heating, whilst the beds are the sort dreams are made of.
Moor & Mead restaurant and bar is located at the heart of the hotel, the all-day dining concept run by East London team Barworks, known for Mare Street Market, and offering a classic menu with modern twists and many ingredients sourced locally.
Harry Adams is currently occupying the hotel’s Photo Studio, the ex-scientist turned portrait photographer creating a series of photographs depicting ‘Montcalm East Behind the Scenes’ due to be published in 2023. Culture continues by way of Hoxton Mini Press providing a collection of books to fill the hotel library, whilst a partnership with magazine fanatics MagCulture delivers a range of rare fashion, art and photography titles direct to room.
From iconic architecture to culture and luxuriant comfort, Montcalm East is a design-forward hotel every bit as creative as its famous locale.
