Casetta Group come up trumps again with Marina Riviera, a renovation project in Big Bear Lake, California, which sees 42 guest rooms and six two-bedroom cabins elevating a mountain town destination where the words ‘design-driven’ and ‘hotel’ were barely uttered in the past.
The California-based brand synonymous with converting boutique hotels and motels into thoughtful lodging — think Palm Springs’s Casa Cody, and San Diego’s The Pearl Hotel — have partnered with longterm collaborators Electric Bowery on the property’s guest rooms, as well as with Hausman Creative on the newly added cabins.
Set within a 1968 Viking-inspired lodge, the restoration has created a new boutique experience within the year-round destination, Marina Riviera honouring the original 1960s heritage and architecture by returning the hotel to its original namesake and identity while upgrading the design, amenities, and overall guest experience.
Guest room interiors draw inspiration from Big Bear’s natural surroundings and are influenced by classic ski lodge design. Ranging from Third Wheel rooms with a queen-size bed and twin bunk, up to Premier Kings with fireplace, all feature vintage nature-inspired art, custom furnishings, and lake views; whilst many boast a private balcony providing a front-row seat to nature’s theatre as the sun rises and sets each day.
The midcentury-inspired cabins, are residential in design with two bedrooms, one bathroom, a full kitchen, and separate living room space with fireplace. Ideal for the long-term or independent traveller, guests still have access to the amenities and concierge service of the hotel, mere footsteps away.
Speaking of amenities, guest rooms and cabins at Marina Riviera are outfitted with Parachute Home bedding and bath linens, tree-free/toxin-free PlantPaper toilet paper, certified organic MoonCloth Designs bath products, and custom-designed Finery bathrobes. Over in the lobby, additional goodies from collaborations with Other People’s Coffee and Masha Tea can be found.
A short stroll to the restaurants, bars and shops of Big Bear Lake, guests can opt to take things as easy or adventurous as they’d like. With an onsite private beach, swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, and outdoor bar and restaurant with outdoor fire pits still to come, you can be sure We Heart will be opting for the former.
