Hidden among a the lush landscape of a neighbouring centuries-old forest, Vocabolo Moscatelli — a member of The Aficionados — is a 12 room and suites hotel where rich Italian history and elegant mid-20th century style collide throughout.
Co-founder Frederik Kubierschky and partner Catharina Lütjens discovered the property, a 12th century monastery located in an unspoilt corner of Umbria, and called upon the expertise of studio Archiloop’s architect Jacopo Venerosi Pesciolini to carry out the soulful restoration. A tribute to consecrated heritage and modern Italian design, Vocabolo Moscatelli fuses 800-year-old walls and a bell tower that still stands, with spirited hospitality and local craftsmanship.
Guest rooms range from the Deluxe Room Villa to the Terrace Suite Villa, each one home to their own distinctive character and style. Rooms are equipped with a king-size bed, a spacious wardrobe, a small seating area, and details such as hemp linens, or handmade, colourful tiles by Italian artists Cotto Etrusco. Some of the larger rooms are designed for indoor-outdoor living, with a choice of warm earth tones that emphasise the natural transition into the garden.
Located on the ground floor of the main villa, the hotel bar and restaurant offers door and outdoor seating, along with an inviting conservatory. Here, guests can experience gastronomy inspired by the rich flavours of the Umbrian land, chef de cuisine, Luca, creating meat and fish dishes alongside other local and sustainable ingredients and vegetables.
Whether cocooned in their bedrooms, indulging in the restaurant, enjoying a dip in the travertine swimming pool, or aimlessly wandering the Mediterranean-inspired grounds, whilst at Vocabolo Moscatelli, guests can reach the heights of true disconnection, being left with only their thoughts and the bountiful countryside that keeps this part of Italy detached from the haste and horror of the modern world.
