PJ.Lobster, the contemporary optical brand founded in Barcelona in 2018, continues its expansion throughout the Catalan capital with the opening of its fourth store in the affluent Sarrià-Sant Gervasi neighbourhood.
Set within a typically building of Catalan nobility in the Eixample district, the 80 square metre space debuts a “new spatial concept that aligns with the brand’s expansion strategy and enhances its consolidation in the visual health sector;” harmonising the high-tech nature of the brand with a minimalism that enables the product to take centre stage.
With architecture and design by Valencia-based experimental studio El Departamento, PJ. Lobster’s ground floor — once home to a renowned fruit shop — features a distinctive stone façade with four large arches connecting the two sides of the establishment. This colossal space, with a square morphology and a free height of over five metres, is structured around a central pillar dividing the area into four quadrants, one of them with a mezzanine. A key focal point of the project, the arches also display in a lattice-like manner, the custom-designed stainless-steel shelves by the studio themsevles.
A majestic space, the walls have been coated with a lime mortar in a shade of blue-grey, while the silver travertine floor with greyish tones interacts with the vertical surfaces, ceiling and steel furniture. El Departamento’s attention to detail is evident in every corner of the space through custom furniture including the Munt 330 stools that appear as pieces to capture the elegance of their simplicity, and of course the Blong side table which can also be spotted at the Barcelona El Born and Madrid boutiques.
With stores also in Valencia and Zaragoza, PJ. Lobster seek to meets the needs of present and future generations in terms of trusted and high-quality optics, with progressive design at the forefront of their vision; their latest in this well-heeled Barcelona barri a case in point.
