Disrupting Malaga‘s gastronomy scene since 2016, La Antxoeta is the brainchild of ‘rock ‘n’ roll chef’ Pablo Caballero and is renowned throughout the south of Spain for its combination of imaginative flavours and casual style served with a healthy dose of maverick swagger.
With his restaurant located in the Soho neighbourhood, a creative quarter in the city’s riverside area, Caballero has become one of the gastronomic references in the vicinity; allowing his imagination to run free when devising dishes for the eatery’s ever changing menu.
Prioritising seasonal and local products that he lets speak for themselves, his avant-garde techniques can be found in both traditional plates and more modern cuisine, the Catalan chef opening La Antxoeta as “a place to enjoy cuisine with a Mediterranean soul and creative overtones” in 2016 following stints in kitchens throughout Barcelona, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Malaga.
Designed by local interior design studio Interni Esterni (IE2), the 30 person capacity space is as one would expect: industrial, raw and packing a colourful punch. Eye-catching art hangs on the walls contrasting with the more subtle wooden tables dotted throughout. Conforming to non-conformity, this restaurant looks as fresh now in terms of style as it did when it opened its doors back in 2016.
For fare served with rock ‘n’ spirit in equally unconventional surrounds, Pablo Caballero’s La Antxoeta continues to be a must-visit for hungry fans on convention-busting in or travelling to Malaga.
