Located in Buenos Aires‘s Chinatown, a neighbourhood known locally known as Barrio Chino, Data Pizza is a culinary project founded on three fundamental pillars: productive efficiency, technology, and cutting-edge design. Situated beneath a viaduct, the eye-catching 50 metre squared red kiosk has become a reference point for the local area since its opening earlier this year.
Designed by Vang Studios, a multidisciplinary studio specialised in architecture and design, Data Pizza was conceptualised as “a computerised laboratory where the sum of its parts must result in a machine that is error-proof.” Inspired by Dieter Rams’ ten principles of good design — and due to restrictions in size — the concept “good design is as little design as possible”, was used.
With a desire to achieve impact through synthesis, the structure was materialised in steel with a fiery red colour, while technological applications such as LED screens and graphics illuminate the box, bringing it to life and capturing the attention of passersby.
An architectural statement, Data Pizza’s red steel box becomes the figure of the narrative and the kitchen, which is fully visible to the public and allows customers to take a peak at the fresh ingredients being used to make the pizzas that are subsequently cooked in the crowning jewel of the project: the glowing pizza oven.
