Designed by renowned architect Frida Escobedo, Boca de Agua offers guests 22 spacious and carefully crafted treehouses designed using upcycled and salvaged materials.
Located in Bacalar in the Southeastern part of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, the Design Hotels member provides guests with a luxury jungle experience, the property set on a stunning lagoon and reached by traversing two kilometres of discrete, unpaved road before a monumental Mayan-inspired structure gives way to these epic treehouse-style villas.
The architecture of the structures transforms the surrounding jungle into its personal décor, allowing the fauna to roam freely beneath, while the sizeable ‘rooms’ set the new standard for slow travel. Ranging from the 45 square metre Jungle Treehouse to the 75 square metre Master Pool Treehouse and 90 metres squared two-bedroom Pool Treehouse, the design at Boca de Agua proves that regenerative hospitality and sustainable architecture can provide both comfort and beauty. The treehouses are kitted out with a king-size bed, handmade bath products by Laguna Cyprien, original artwork by Marina Silva, and furniture from the award-winning ‘Rolo Collection.’
The hotel’s public areas include a plunge pool and recreational areas, and serve as visual anchors in the landscape, with a series of light walkways connecting these spaces to the villas. Interior design was completed by hotelier Rodrigo Juarez alongside Diego Alor, Frida Escobedo, Mariel Lozano, and can be seen throughout the property including restaurant, Flora, where chef Carlos Bordonave uses local ingredients to prepare dishes that are rooted in tradition, as well as Boca de Agua’s spa; situated next to the cenote pool and allowing guests to enjoy world-class treatments amid pristine nature.
Experience Bacalar’s laid-back vibe knowing you’re travelling sustainably and authentically. A real gem of true seclusion on the Yucatán, Boca de Agua Bacalar is an exquisite hospitality project.
