Situated in Geisingen, in southwest Germany’s Baden-Württemberg state, 1280 Krone is a member of The Aficionados that blends raw architecture with rustic flare, the boutique hotel and restaurant — having welcomed guests in some form or another since 1280 — known as the town’s oldest inn.
With an impressive location between Stuttgart and Zürich, and equal proximity to Lake Constance, the Danube Valley, and the Black Forest, the once neglected property stood at risk of losing its rich history before owner Christoph von Bothmer hired the expertise of local architect Markus Uhrig who engaged meticulous deconstruction and thoughtful reconstruction to complete a transformative restoration that seamlessly integrated modern elements while preserving its authentic character.
Today, 1280 Krone comprises four interconnected buildings including a barn. The 29 bedrooms are spread across the trio of structures, the accommodations offering a diverse array of features befitting of a building with so much history. Rooms are styled individually with no two the same. What they do have in common is a sense of charm and character. Low ceilings, exposed beams and walls are softened by plush linens and curtains whilst nooks and crannies and interesting niches highlight their individuality. Guests will also adore the spaces with blackened steel accents and modern fixtures, such as egg-shaped bathtubs and freestanding sinks that undoubtedly infuse a touch of urban sophistication.
Guests and locals can access a cellar-bar through a golden tunnel, and indulge in regional wines and cocktails before heading for dinner at restaurant Zum Hecht, which is found adjacent to the hotel and serves up honest, Mediterranean-regional and creative cuisine. The following morning, enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel, the spread including an array of small plates showcasing local cheeses, assorted meats, eggs, smoked salmon, granola, fresh fruits, artisanal bread, and house-made jams, all complemented by expertly crafted coffee and freshly pressed juices.
From its rustic façade with red shutters, to its vaulted cellar and debonair guest rooms, Geisingen design hotel 1280 Krone serves as a tribute to careful conservation, presenting a unique fusion of historical charm and contemporary opulence overseen by its hospitable proprietors.
