Sea Sea Hotel, Crescent Head

Halfway between Sydney and Byron Bay, Sea Sea Hotel unites the spirit of '70s surf, the halcyon days of MTV and iconic motel design...

Set to open in November 2024, Sea Sea Hotel will offer 25 guest rooms that hark to the laid-back ease of 1970s Australian surf culture with warm wood interiors and bags of surfer style.

Located halfway between Sydney and Byron Bay in the coastal town of Crescent Head, the boutique hotel is the work of director and designer George Gorrow alongside his wife Franziska Tschurtenthaler, and has undergone a gentle renovation whereby the property’s historical architectural elements and unique eccentricities have been integrated with an organic modernist, forward-thinking concept.

Nodding to its past while celebrating what it will become, Sea Sea Hotel is also home to the Surf Club; a multi-dimensional space with a revolving program of musical performances, social gatherings, and art exhibitions. The hotel’s core, it’s a place for guests to “expand their understanding of music, art, and surf culture and how it is all intertwined, revolving, and always relative.” Within the Surf Club is a souvenir shop, audio lounge, fireplace, and Sea Sea’s signature bar and restaurant.

Bedrooms are eclectic spaces that offer an acute sensitivity to textures and an irreverence for tradition. The warm interiors are complemented by raw, handcrafted textures, artisan-produced furniture and hand-woven rugs. Walls are embellished with art and objects found throughout the years, along with collaborative pieces from artisan surfers such as Peter Crawford, Ozzy Wrong, and Aleph Geddis.

Guests will also be able to enjoy Sea Sea TV (CCTV), an in-room, 24-hour music video channel which is lauded as a surfers’ version of the legendary MTV cable television channel. Curated by Wesley Herron of Reverberation Radio, the immersive channel is specific to the hotel, enabling guests to weave music into their stay and again expand their understanding of music, art, and surf culture.

Offering something completely fresh and new in the world of global hospitality, let alone Crescent Head, Sea Sea Hotel is set to be a game-changing project that will attract attention from around the world.
