Originally constructed in 1901 as a stationer’s warehouse, The Ansonborough Charleston is a 45-room luxury inn situated in the heart of the city’s historic downtown district.
Following an extensive reinvention sourced, co-developed, capitalised and managed by Wright Investments, Inc., and developed by Continental Hospitality Group, the property will welcome guests from September when it will debut as a base for travellers looking to discover genuine Charleston hospitality coupled with an authentic neighbourhood experience; guests invited to “immerse oneself in freshly reimagined spaces that pay homage to the area’s past while embracing today’s comforts.”
Embodying the spirit of Charleston’s oldest district established in the 1700s by Lord Anson (a British Royal Navy Officer who, according to folklore, won the neighbourhood in a game of cards), interiors have been conceived by award-winning designers, Studio 11 Design, and bring the modern ‘Ansonborough’s’ personality to life through a new visual landscape rooted in its history. Guest room points of interest include antique subway tile mirror backsplashes, brushed gold fixtures, mosaic tile flooring, Skara Brae quartz countertops, repe myrtles and local flora, historic antiques and a vast collection of original artwork. Whether you’re seeking an intimate weekend getaway or need more space for the family vacay, The Ansonborough offers a variety of rooms for any occasion.
Alongside curated guest rooms, the hotel is home to the Scarborough & Squirrel Bar which offers elevated light fare and artisanal cocktails, beers, and wines; along with a poker room paying homage to Captain Anson’s legacy, which can be found tucked away behind a discreet bookcase enclave. The Rooftop Garden, meanwhile, is exclusive to guests and an authentic outdoor oasis offering cosy seating areas and fire pits enveloped in a lush landscape and boasting views of Charleston’s ubiquitous church steeples and the Cooper River Bridge.
A special place waiting to be discovered following a major renovation and repositioning, The Ansonborough Charleston pulls back the curtain on convention and invites you to unwind, disconnect and discover the legacy of its historic home.
