The new flagship store for esteemed New York ice cream and confectionary destination, Glace, has opened at 1268 Madison Avenue, Manhattan; the new venue located next door to the original and marking a notable enhancement in both space and experience.
Designed by Levi Shaw-Faber and Audrey Hughes of Faber/Hughes — whose previous work include the new Marc Jacobs offices — Glace 1268 Madison Avenue boasts a bright and airy space that blends fanciful with sophistication. Creating an environment that enchants, shoppers will awe at striking, cotton-candy pink 20-foot ceilings anchored by a sculptural oculus and illuminated by marshmallow-inspired mobiles; a nod to Glace’s signature toasted meringue.
The marble bar showcases 14 artisanal ice cream flavours, and includes an interactive topping station and decadent chocolate fountain. A centrepiece of the design is the giant, rotating sprinkle dispenser and a 12-seat outdoor dining area.
Helmed by visionary Sasha Zabar, son of famed New York gourmand Eli Zabar, the menu at Glace reflects the seasonal bounty of New York and features classics alongside new sundaes such as the chocolate mousse sundae, featuring a choice of ice cream topped with chocolate mousse, whipped cream, and caramelized cacao nibs; and the cookies and cream sundae with two scoops of ice cream.
The revamped menu also includes an array of homemade ice creams and sorbets that marry the finesse of French glacé with the richness of Italian gelato. Under the guidance of ‘gelato master’ Giacomo Schiavon, Zabar has perfected flavours like tiramisu, crème brûlée, amarena and yogurt, lemon custard and raspberry, and hazelnut cremino.
Instant gratification guaranteed, Glace’s updated new location is sure to tantalise the tastebuds of Manhattanites and sweet-toothed travellers alike.
