Wildflowers, Newson’s Yard, London

Wildflowers is a charming Med-inspired neighbourhood restaurant, wine bar and deli for new London design hub, Newson’s Yard...

Located within Newson’s Yard — a recently conceived design hub on the Pimlico Road in London’s Belgravia — Wildflowers is a new neighbourhood restaurant, wine bar and deli with a focus on seasonal, high-quality ingredients cooked over coals.

Founded by chef Aaron Potter and interior stylist Laura Hart, the restaurant is the duo’s first and has been designed collaboratively with Studio Found; the award-winning hospitality design studio responsible for the interiors of 64 Goodge St, Honey & Co. Daily, plus many more renowned London venues. Taking design cues from its location as well as the collective vision of Aaron and Laura, the resulting work is a relaxed yet elegant space that nods to Mediterranean cuisine and cultures.

Split over two floors with the dining room and deli on the first floor and wine bar upstairs, it was important that the design incorporated a seamless flow throughout. The dining area is home to an open kitchen, bringing a connection between the chefs and the diners; Potter wanting guests to have a full sensory dining experience in which they can see the attention to detail that goes into each dish they’re about to indulge in. Upstairs, a intimate wine bar is inspired by the cicchetti and pintxos bars of Italy and Spain, and features a large dark-wood bar as a focal point that is accentuated by an oversized traditional edge and bronze back bar display behind it.

Colours, textures and forms found in the Med were used as a design palette and built upon, simple materials such as rough plaster, aged oak wood, terracotta, glass and linen, enhanced and elevated with richer materials such as marble and velvets. Original features of the building such as the Victorian brickwork were also retained to add an overall character and depth to this charming space.

Whether picking at snacks such as marinated olives, orange, paprika, and rosemary, or devouring a Lamb tartare with Wildflower harissa and labneh; a Cornish duck cooked over coals and served with golden raisins, pine nuts and sherry; or sharing a 30-day aged Sirloin on the bone with smoked bone marrow rice … the cuisine at Wildflowers Newson’s Yard is as authentic and heart-warming as its aesthetic.

An impressive result of a collective design vision, Wildflowers is a fine addition to this bustling corner of the capital.
