Having recently undergone a renovation which included the addition of Cala, a modern and contemporary food and beverage experience, Winston Hills’ The Winston Hotel now offers patrons a design-led pub space to revel in indulgence, where rich flavours and social moments collide, and tales of adventures are shared.
Designed by Pony Design Co. in collaboration with stylist Lucia B Creative and lighting designer Curious Labs, the new space respects the hotel’s existing mid-century and Japanese-inspired architecture; Pony Design Co. preserving the majority of the original floors and layout, and infusing a nostalgic feel with design elements including intimate fire-side cocoons, and original Frank Lloyd Wright wall lights which were not only retained, but served as inspiration for the structural forms throughout the interiors.
The pub and restaurant is interspersed with nooks that offer an array of seating and ambience for every kind of gathering. Hidden behind plant screens and cabinets filled with curiosities, customers can discover secluded alcoves or take a seat at the cocktail bar, every corner thoughtfully designed, exuding glamour and opulence. Pony Design Co. explain more of their concept for Cala telling us: “The space tells the story of a worldly muse — a glamorous traveller who collects objet d’art and stories from across the globe. Her love of Asian-fusion and mid-century design weaves its way through the venue, reflecting her passions for music, fashion, art, and cuisine.”
Whether you’re enjoying a night out with a partner, gathering with friends, or celebrating with a lively crowd, Cala at The Winston fuses lavish interiors, contemporary ambiance, and an engaging atmosphere at this ever-popular Sydney suburb hotel.
