With 105 guest rooms, four restaurants, two bars, a pool and pool bar, full-service spa, and indoor and outdoor event spaces, Albert Hotel is a tranquil Hill Country resort located just off the bustling Main Street of Fredericksburg, a picturesque and historic Texas town.
Combining German heritage with Texan hospitality, the Albert Hotel serves as a homage to the Hill Country with general manager Mike Bolick telling us “from the limestone façades that echo the town’s 150-year-old historic buildings to our culinary offerings that celebrate local flavours, every aspect of the hotel is a love letter to Fredericksburg.”
Situated at 213 East Austin Street, the latest venture from New Waterloo — the visionary force behind some of Texas’s most iconic hospitality experiences — the hotel will open January 2025 as a new cornerstone of luxury. A gateway to the rich tapestry of history, culture, and natural beauty of the Hill Country region of Texas, the resort occupies two acres in the heart of Fredericksburg’s three ‘Golden Blocks’ at the centre of the historic shopping and entertainment district.
Named after Albert Keidel, described as “the Hill Country’s last renaissance man, like the man himself, the hotel has an uncanny ability to take the lid off a place and look underneath, to see a place for exactly what it is, and perhaps more importantly, see what it could be.
A destination in itself, the design is a blend of old and new renovation of the Keidel family home, built in 1860; the Brockmann-Kiehne House, built in 1870; Keidel Pharmacy, built in 1906; and The Saloon, built in 1888. Austin-based architecture firm Clayton Korte designed the hotel in collaboration with New Waterloo, with the material palette of the new building including traditional wood siding paired with a custom-raked stucco finish intended to capture and reflect the changing sunlight throughout the day.
Interiors have been conceived by Melanie Raines and are material-driven, layered, and eclectic, with design warm yet unfussy. Guest rooms and suites feature tailored amenities, custom-designed furniture, and little extras, blending quiet sophistication with Texan charm.
With four gastronomic offerings, there’s something to delight every taste at Albert, and with Michael Fojtasek (who was recently awarded a Michelin Star for Olamaie) at the helm, dining experiences will draw on the land’s bounty and regional tastes and are set to be something special.
The ideal base from which to explore the myriad wonders of the Hill Country, Fredericksburg’s Albert Hotel is an exciting proposition for this historic corner of central Texas.
