Holloway Li has completed the remodelling of Club Quarters Hotel St Paul’s, the 265-room property embracing the architectural integrity of the original mid-century structure, nodding to post-war modernism along the way.
Club Quarters called upon Holloway Li to reimagine their London portfolio and elevate their offering in the growing landscape of lifestyle hotels. Occupying a prime location next to the iconic dome-shaped St. Paul’s Cathedral, this contemporary hotel sets its renovated rooms, suites and public spaces against the 800-year history of the City of London area.
With a commitment to enhancing guest experience, the design of the hotel includes warm and inviting hues, textured glass and vibrant accents that promise a blend of grace, comfort, and practicality against a culturally dynamic setting. Striking a balance between contemporary and classic, Holloway Li’s design embarked on a number of bespoke set-piece collaborations, expressive of both form and function, to evoke and reflect the optimism of post-war design and craft.
Design highlights include a striking ten-metre-long solid, sculpted cherry-wood feature wall in the lobby which the designers put together in collaboration with South London-based furniture maker James Trundle; a cloud-like entrance pendant light, created in collaboration with lighting designer Joe Armitage and digitally modelled by Holloway Li; and a reception-desk-coffee-counter which references the original architecture with its array of bespoke stone columns.
The Club Living Room is a versatile dual-purpose space that transforms from work place by day to relaxed living room by night. Referencing their work for brands such as Locke and The Hoxton, the space is re-ordered around a five-metre-long show-piece blue lava-stone table, which acts as the focal point of the space and is surrounded by a number of different seating settings.
From sleek communal spaces to guest rooms adorned with Paolozzi prints and furniture pieces such as the Carl Hansen armchair, Club Quarters Hotel St Paul’s is an expressive ode to classic design paired with a forward-thinking embrace of contemporary culture.
