Renowned pop artist Philip Colbert‘s collectible works remain on show until 26 January at Brighton‘s Helm Gallery, the exhibition entitled Prints and Editions showcasing never-before-seen exclusive prints of some of his most revered works alongside the last remaining sculptures from the Lobstars collectables series, alongside all-new sculptures, toys, books and merch.
A bone fide 21st century pop art star and We Heart favourite who has continued to take the art world by storm over the course of the last decade, the Scotland-born, London-residing artist dubbed ‘The Godson of Andy Warhol’ exhibited his works at Saatchi Gallery in 2017 and 2018 before launching Lobsteropolis, a digital virtual reality artistic universe, at the Serpentine Gallery in June 2021.
With a burning desire to take the malacostracan project to the next level, Colbert built the Lobsteropolis community creating citizens called ‘Lobstars;’ a vast array of tactile vibrant smaller scale sculptures of lobster figures adopting any number of outré disguises.
Dominating the Exhibition Hall of Helm Gallery, viewers can enjoy the artist’s first ever prints and editions show enjoying captivating and imaginative sculptures and compositions that fuse hyper-pop art imagery with a ground-breaking and forward-thinking approach to both physical and digital art.
A rare opportunity to own (Lobstars in an edition of 100 are available for just £950) and view Colbert’s work in every form, Prints and Editions will remain on show until 26 January, giving those in Brighton are fanciful glimpse into the unorthodox mind of a true British art icon.
