Following the refurbishment of the main pub wing of Kincumber Hotel — a much-loved community venue on Australia’s Central Coast since 1976 — Fabric Architecture Studio turned their hands to carving out nooks that would provide for a more inclusive feel for patrons.
One of those nooks turned out to be a cocktail bar where the local and diverse community could enjoy an elevated pub experience, the charm and intimacy of small bars often missing in regional towns; instead dominated by larger and oft soulless outposts. Fabric Architecture, the design studio behind Empire Bay Tavern, bridged this gap by fusing elements that evoke the inviting and celebratory ambience found in small city bars.

The final design of the cocktail bar is a testament to thoughtful architecture and attention to detail. Mood lighting and warm honey tones creates an inviting feel while ocean blue tiles and wave furniture motifs add a touch of coastal charm that reflects the local surrounds. These elements work together to create a space that feels both unique and familiar. Nodding to traditional Aussie pubs, but with a modern twist, design also includes a full tiled bar that mirrors the classic shape of a pub but with an unconventional flip; adding an unexpected and contemporary touch to the space.
A versatile venue with a variety of spaces, the Kincumber Hotel has something for everyone, and with the addition of the cocktail bar, promises an unforgettable experience regardless of whether you’re popping in for a causal visit or grabbing your friends and headed for a night out.
