Hotel Humano, Puerto Escondido

Puerto Escondido's Hotel Humano is a tropical paradise that embraces its guests in the singular spirit of its surrounds...

A sanctuary set steps away from Zicatela Beach — a surfers’ paradise and one of Puerto Escondido‘s most popular beaches — Hotel Humano is the latest offering from Grupo Habita and has been inspired by the surrounding community, designed to accommodate travellers and locals alike, juxtaposing the privacy of guest rooms and a central courtyard with permeable latticed façades that seamlessly integrate the lobby with the street life beyond.

Designed by architect Jorge Hernandez de la Garza and the team at Madrid-based Plantea Estudio, inspiration was found in the hotel’s location just blocks away from the beach and reflects the loose and relaxed spirit of the property’s environment. French hospitality creative studio, Ciao Lobby complemented this architectural vision with a brand identity that weaves the local culture and lifestyle into the graphic and experiential design, ensuring every detail resonates with the destination’s allure.

Buildings are primarily made of concrete, clay tiles and bricks, and tropical wood, while the lobby’s double-height ceilings give way to permeable latticed structures by Adolfo Sánchez Rojas that merge the interior and exterior. Every detail is crafted with care by local artisans where possible, and the Mexican hospitality that awaits guests is unbeatable.

The lobby is where the journey begins, and features a seamless blend of warm welcomes and rich aromas. With locally sourced coffee crafted by in-house baristas, every cup tells a story of Puerto Escondido. Moving on, the 39 rooms, including eight suites, are home to areas for sleeping, bathing, and relaxing, each interconnected with differing amounts of privacy created through the use of freestanding walls and curtains. Handmade wine-coloured tiles by San Pedro Ceramics are used to line the shower, freestanding washbasin, mirror unit, and the bed’s headboard, while one-of-a-kind drawings by Mexico City–based artist Lucio Muniain hang on the walls.

A tropical paradise, Design Hotels member Hotel Humano also boasts a rooftop garden; a central courtyard with a pool and sun loungers; restaurant and bar; an outdoor spa featuring a sauna, two cold plunges and a massage room. A beach club featuring six private bungalows with stunning ocean views is slated for later in 2025.

From light snacks, drinks and sunset views on the rooftop, to dining alfresco in the courtyard, guests can immerse themselves in the relaxed culture of this unmissable corner of Mexico, Hotel Humano a blissful design hotel that embraces the singular character of its surrounds.
