Set within the heart of Santo Domingo’s UNESCO-listed district and designed by Moneo Brock Architects, the 130-room Kimpton hotel respects its colonial roots while introducing contemporary architectural elements that enhance rather than overshadow. Original façades remain intact, while new elevated structures, courtyards, and open spaces ensure that the property integrates effortlessly with its historic environment, resulting in a ‘green block’ concept that extends beyond hospitality, fostering community connection and urban regeneration.
The hotel’s design ethos revolves around local materials and sustainable practices. Travertine, wood, and ceramics create an aesthetic that feels natural and authentic, while native vegetation thrives within courtyards, softening the transition between built and organic elements. The central courtyard — once the heartbeat of the original structure — remains an oasis where natural light, cross ventilation, and lush greenery converge to form a tranquil, tropical escape.
Each guest room has been thoughtfully designed to offer private balconies overlooking the courtyards, with select rooms featuring personal terraces and jacuzzis. The experience continues skyward, where a rooftop terrace offers a solarium, swimming pool, and gym; all with far-reaching views of the sea and Ciudad Colonial below.
