Set against the Mediterranean backdrop of Barceloneta beach, SALT at W Barcelona emerges as a striking fusion of natural elements and contemporary design. Newly transformed, the space adapts to the varying rhythms of the day, transitioning effortlessly from a refined breakfast room for hotel guests to a stylish dining destination, and later, an adaptable venue for private events and parties.

Designed to foster a deeper connection with its surroundings, SALT ensures that diners indoors can enjoy uninterrupted views of the sea, while expansive glazed and folding window frames dissolve the boundaries between inside and out. A pergola constructed from natural fibres extends from the terrace into the interior, enhancing the sense of fluidity between the spaces and reinforcing the restaurant’s harmonious relationship with its coastal setting.

With interiors by local studio Sandra Tarruella Interioristas, and Olga Pajares leading the project, the material palette pays homage to nature with sandy-hued walls and micro-mortar flooring that echoes the textures of the beach. A micro-terrazzo surface defines the different dining zones, subtly guiding guests through the space, while an acoustic ceiling with rhythmic lime mortar grouting balances aesthetic appeal with practical sound absorption. The curvilinear front wall, adorned with vertically placed handmade clay pieces, introduces a tactile richness that grounds the space in warmth and authenticity.

Flexible and functional, SALT’s custom-designed furniture allows for effortless transformation throughout the day. The organic-shaped bars seem to emerge naturally from the continuous pavement, anchoring the various dining experiences without obstructing the eye. Perimeter banquettes in the same sandy hue are complemented by modular wooden seats, mobile planters, and vitrified tile accents, enhancing the space’s versatility.

Natural materials reign supreme, from solid iroko wood to locally sourced stone, while Mediterranean greenery adds a refreshing contrast. Overhead, a striking lighting installation designed in collaboration with artist Ramón de los Heros pays tribute to the desert rose, featuring handcrafted elements that mimic the intricate layers of the natural stone.

With the essence of Barceloneta at its core, SALT is a testament to seamless design, coastal inspiration, and adaptable functionality, offering an unparalleled dining experience in one of Barcelona’s most iconic locations.
