Charleston newbie, Legami, is a 180-seat restaurant that connects families, continents, and food, serving contemporary Italian fare from a historic building at 492 King Street.
Designed by owner Tyler Ropolo, interiors were influenced by Italian culture and the charm of Charleston, the space reminiscent of an ‘Italian villa’, with fabrics and furnishings transported from overseas. Italian artist Flavio Bragaloni was brought in to form elegant hand painted plaster walls complete with lifelike palms, the New York-based creative known for his work in decorative plaster, fresco, gilding, and faux painting.
Upon entering the bi-level space, guests are greeted by an open kitchen. The downstairs dining room features a mix of rustic, rattan chairs, Charleston-inspired pastel green banquettes and white speckled Carrara marble tables, with walls adorned with antique mirrors and Indonesian wood carvings. The second floor is home to a more intimate dining area, with green velvet seating, marble tables, floor to ceiling windows and custom lighting from Torino based artist, Vocaturi and a social lounge for late night drinks and music. For those who like to dine al fresco, Legami boasts a patio adorned with jasmine vines, and an upstairs terrace with delightful views over Mary Street.
The latest project from Washington Street Hospitality, the menu by executive chef Andrea Congiusta (who has worked in several Michelin starred restaurants throughout Italy and is the group chef of Washington Street Hospitality), features sharing plates and homemade pastas inspired by the team’s collective upbringings in Torino and Rome, alongside a playful cocktail menu and an Italian leaning wine list.
Whether looking for casual, intimate or decadent weekend vibes, Legami Charleston is a stylish and sumptuous diner for fans of Italian glamour.
