Located in one of New York City‘s most storied neighbourhoods, Romer Hell’s Kitchen is a 295-room hotel just west of Broadway and a short walk to the waterfront. As much a neighbourhood haunt as it is a hotel, Romer Hell’s Kitchen also houses So & So’s Piano Bar and restaurant, which is tucked through the back entrance on 52nd street (you’ll find it behind a nondescript blue door) and serves up hot dishes and curated tunes in a supper-club-esque venue where one can expect nightly live entertainment. Neighbourhood Café, meanwhile, is an all-day reprieve from the city’s unrelenting energy, and serves local coffee and bites to fuel the day for both healthier sorts and those in need of being brought back down to earth.
Bedrooms are spacious and embody the spirit of quintessential New York pre-war apartments with views overlooking tree-lined residential streets and soaring skyscrapers. Designed by Islyn Studio, they range from King and Corner King, to 2 Queen and 1-Bed Suite options; each featuring a seating area and art by FIT students, alumni and professors.
The public spaces have been designed by local firm Goodrich and maintain the allure of the 1960s-built, Morris Lapidus’ building — the edifice in which the hotel is situated — with highlights including custom cantilevered chandeliers and public spaces including a living room and library, where both local residents and guests are equally welcome to gather around communal seating, in more intimate settings, or around the fire with a good glass of wine.
For a more authentic New York hotel experience and a slice of the local action, Romer Hell’s Kitchen offers neighbourhood feels in one of Manhattan’s most evocative corners; a welcome blend of hedonism and relaxation that is ripe in authenticity.
