With just 22 suites, new Mexican boutique hotel Kymaia offers guests a serene escape on Playa El Puertecito, a tranquil beach close to the idyllic port town of Puerto Escondido.
Designed by Ezequiel Ayarza Sforza, the entrepreneur behind Casona Sforza, Kymaia fuses environmental regeneration with sustainable design, celebrating biodiversity in every detail. Its name is derived from Sanskrit and means ‘miracle’ or ‘wonder,’ something that reflects the spirit of this design hotel’s unforgettable surroundings; paying homage to the life between sea and land, an oasis where luxury and nature intertwine in harmony.
Spaces has been designed to highlight the unique beauty of Oaxaca, the architecture becoming an extension of the native landscape, an interplay of shapes and textures that subtly integrate with the scale of the ocean. Blending in with the topography, nine senior suites located on the ground floor are surrounded by gardens that merge with the horizon, and have partial views of the sea and a pool. The upper floor, meanwhile, is home to a further nine junior suites, each offering views of the ocean and equipped with hot tubs for maximum relaxation. At the property’s highest level, four ocean front suites provide guests with panoramic ocean views and a private pool.
Mexican studio Productora oversaw the architectural design, and were inspired by traditional building techniques, embracing materials such as stucco, clay and local wood to evoke the warmth of Oaxacan culture. Not purely for aesthetic reasons, the decision was made due to a commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment. Sand tones and wood finishes achieve a delicate balance between rustic and sophisticated, creating an atmosphere that is both elegant and welcoming.
Gastronomy comes courtesy of chef Eduardo García, Kymaia home to three restaurants: Septimus, Huachinango Bar and the underground restaurant La Cueva. Each space is transformed into settings where each dish tells a story; the cuisine inspired by local ingredients and the richness of Oaxacan flavours, chef García combining ancient techniques with a contemporary approach that highlights the freshness and authenticity of the raw ingredients.
A spa, shala, and common areas including a pool and trails complete this oasis, making Kymaia a place to immerse and recharge. A place where tradition and modernity converge, here the traveller is regarded as part of a dream that beats to the rhythm of nature.
