Le Jardin de Verre by Locke, Paris

Continuing to evolve their creative-forward hospitality brand, Paris's Le Jardin de Verre by Locke is their most lavish to date...

With 145 rooms on the Rue de Lacépède, in the dynamic fifth arrondissement and close to the Panthéon, Jardin des Plantes and Sorbonne University, Locke arrives in Paris; Le Jardin de Verre by Locke offering classic style meets modern living in what was once a French Baroque mansion house and 19th century factory.

The rooms are spread across 11 categories and including two signature suites, and provide central city living in the city’s Latin Quarter. Designed by edyn’s in-house design team, the concept for the rooms reflect the stylistic diversity of the site’s three eras and typologies: 18th century townhouse, mid-20th century industrial, and 21st century hotel.

The architecture draws upon Haussmannian design principles of the historical mansion building, such as dark oak flooring and floor to ceiling windows, which contrast with the hard edges of the stainless-steel kitchen counter and patterns of the textiles, all of which are bespoke to the project and created by Studio Knot, founded by textile artists Sinéad and Mark Hanlon.

The team at London- and LA-based interior architecture and design studio Fettle worked their magic on the two suites, Begonia and Roseraie, creating a unique aesthetic for each as well as the overall concept for Le Jardin de Verre, which was inspired by the site’s strong connection to nature, and includes extensive interior landscaping and planting, as well as maximising the natural light afforded by the courtyard atrium.

Whilst the Begonia suite is split across two floors with a design that nods to a chic Parisian apartment with decor in calming shades of green, contemporary curved furniture and bespoke lighting, Roseraie — the larger of the two suites — features a soft pink colour palette and a dramatic glazed ceiling with an oversized chandelier in the central living space. The bedroom houses a freestanding bathtub with views over the historic courtyard. Furniture and fittings are deliberately varied in style and material; eclectic pieces combined with Parisian elegance to create a soft and inviting surrounding for guests. The artwork throughout was curated by the edyn design team with all pieces from local artists.

Bringing the outdoors in, the entrance to Le Jardin de Verre by Locke makes subtle use of greens on the walls. A terracotta floor is punctuated with modern, colourful soft furnishings and lush foliage, and complemented by a traditional palette of materials including stone, terracotta and timber, which contrasts with the industrial influences of the building (concrete columns and original factory metalwork) that has been painstakingly restored to be enjoyed in its original form.

A dedicated yoga studio, on-site gym, and unique culinary concept Bibie (slated to open in May) will complete the offerings and comprise an internal courtyard for dining, with the destination restaurant in the atrium complete with a bar and terrace, dedicated cocktail bar, coffee shop and wine counter. With Locke’s own singular character having had a splash of Parisian swagger, their latest hotel is set to be their most lavish to date.
