Located in Copenhagen’s tranquil Østerbro district, Amator is an attractive new spot that blends the warmth of home dining with the refinement of a contemporary café and restaurant. The brainchild of chef Mateusz Sarnowski, better known as Mati Pichci, Amator takes a simple yet elegant approach to hospitality, offering breakfast and lunch by day, before transforming into an intimate venue for private and corporate dinners by candlelight.
The menu is a reflection of Mati’s culinary philosophy, seasonal, unfussy, and centred around his favourite dish: the classic omelette. Expect light, vibrant plates that champion vegetables at their peak throughout the day, and a more personal dining experience come nightfall, where guests gather around communal tables to share conversation, wine, and meticulously crafted dishes.

Designed by Adam Wierciński of Wierciński-Studio, Amator’s interior embraces a raw, minimalist aesthetic that mirrors the honesty of the food. The space is defined by custom-built furniture, featuring geometric steel constructions paired with natural oak, all handcrafted in Wierciński’s native Poland before being transported to Copenhagen. The communal dining table is composed of modular oak tabletops, and acts as both centrepiece and conversation starter, shifting seamlessly between individual seating and a grand banquet setting.
Subtle design details lend the space a distinct personality. Soft linen-covered walls create a sense of warmth, while a striking piece of tree trunk mounted near the entrance serves as a nod to Amator’s roots. A custom-built vinyl station at the back of the venue, complete with a curated collection of records and handcrafted speakers, ensures that sound is just as carefully considered as the flavours on the plate.
With its thoughtful design, soulful food, and inviting atmosphere, Amator is an inspired space designed for gathering, lingering, and savouring the simple pleasures of both great food and company.
