Taking the great British tradition of the fish supper and giving it the gourmet bifters, Kerbisher & Malt – surely the poshest-sounding chippy in the world – have attracted rave reviews from luminaries of the food world, and they can now add We Heart’s thumbs up to their crammed list of fans. Sorry Blumenthal, you’ll have to move over a bit.

There are a lot of traditional touches to the interior design, too, but just done with a lot more style than average. The menu is on the wall, not on a piece of backlit perspex, but painted on a nice marbled grey. There is a café feel, but with really solid furniture to underpin it. The diner-style booths may have wipe-clean seating, but the colour is spot on. Add to all that a claim to the best fish and chips in Britain, and therefore the world. Winner winner chippy dinner.
