Shoreditch bar-cum-gallery DreamBagsJaguarShoes is consistently one of the capital’s best places to find work from hot new design, art and fashion talents – whilst enjoying a tipple to boot – and, their contribution to this year’s London Design Festival was no different. Opening up at the beginning of the festival, but with a run that lasts ’til 18th November; designers East London Furniture have transformed the space into a hotbed of effortlessly stylish sustainability nirvana, all in the name of showcasing their delightful recycled and upcycled products.
Illustrations from Alessandro Mistrulli apply the typically hipster vibe that you’re used to from the JaguarShoes Collective, but the stars of the show are, of course, the space, furniture and lighting that East London Furniture have fashioned from 100% recycled materials and found objects. Obsessively commited to reuse and resourcefulness, the folk behind E.L.F photograph and document each piece of timber, so its source can always be traced – as the designers look to provoke a reaction about things we discard, and how they can be seen differently.
