From warehouse to gallery to conservatory, Hotel Daniel, Vienna is a chocolate selection box of styles, equally unpredictable yet surprisingly tasty.
Beginning with the reception-cum-garden shed, it’s clear from the off that this place is going to offer something a little bit different, and it doesn’t disappoint. Hotelier Florian Weitzer, who is responsible for bringing the sister venue to life so successfully in Graz, wanted to strip away all the “superfluous pomp and unnecessary frills” of other places while maintaining comfort and the sense of luxury to the busy but interested traveller.
A transportation theme runs through Hotel Daniel. Note the bicycle and panniers at the aforementioned reception, the beautifully-polished but beaten silver Airstream trailer parked in the garden (converted to double as a guest room by a Croatian shipwright), and the piece-de-resistance, the boat installation. Created by Erwin Wurm, the original size sculpture appears to be plunging from the roof.
All that before we’ve even got to the rooms. As interesting a place to stay as you are likely to find.
