Four weeks ago we introduced a rather ingenious marketing campaign from the good folk at Samsung – the premise: to unearth the nation’s ‘other’ David Baileys, chuck a rather lovely NX1000 in their hands, and let them do their worst. Well, seems like their worst was actually rather quite good – was it the power of the camera? The empowerment of realising their inner icon? Whatever it was, company directors, IT chaps and retail managers (all sharing their names with one of the world’s most famous photographers) have come together to show off their hidden talents – and there’s some surprisingly good offerings.
Sure; sunests, reflections and plane window views all make their mark on the ever-growing gallery of work from Bailey Mk IIs, but originality, humour and a keen eye for detail are high on the agenda too – it seems sharing a name is not necessarily all these chaps have in common with the great fashion photographer.
In addition to interesting snaps from coincidentally named men up and down the country, the campaign is now getting inclusive – offering everyone the chance to ‘become David Bailey’, and win a Samsung NX1000.
Head over to www.wearedavidbailey.com, enter the draw (up until 10th December), and answer your phone as David Bailey – sure, you’re going to sound a little bit odd, especially the ladies, but it is hell of a camera and it’s not like we’re asking you to answer your phone as Jimmy Sa… you get the picture – or, you will once you get your hands on one of these beauties.
