Flighty creatures, birds – what we mean is they usually don’t hang around long enough for us to get a really good look at them, that obsolete instinct* to flee from humans still takes over and before you know it, gone.
Luckily for the artistically-minded ornithologists out there, frustration is at an end thanks to artist and illustrator Von and his new collection Flight. Captured in abstract, Von’s work is marked out by the incredible detail with which he renders his subjects in various stages of flight; in fact some of those stages are so mechanically strange as to lend them a surreal quality.
These limited edition hand-made box-sets are real collectors items, each featuring five giclee prints on some impressive-sounding paper. As an added bonus, a random five of the sets contain an original illustration – it’s like Willy Wonka’s golden ticket all over again. But with birds. You’ll have to be quick though, with only 50 sets being produced they won’t be around long. Keep your eye on hip Shoreditch venues around 5th December – we hear there’s a launch night to be confirmed.
* Obsolete unless it’s a seagull. They would get a kick if I was quick enough. And before you bleeding-hearters start complaining, wait till you’ve been violently mugged for a sausage roll on Conwy Quay, then we’ll talk animal cruelty.
