Surely even those who regularly reside underneath the proverbial rock will be aware that the humble burger is no longer, well, humble. Hamburglar has rinsed his dozy mate Ronald, and around the world the meat patty has become big gourmet news – any major city worth its salt now has a string of en vogue burger joints, feeding hipsters with quirky toppings, cheeky branding, and bucket loads of medium-rare mincemeat.
Inevitably, homemade burgers are also ensuring that meat mincer manufacturers won’t be going out of business any time soon – and the rise of the ‘burger blog’ is testament to that; a quick Google search yielding some 84,500 results. However, few (if any) are as inventive as the brilliant but elusive lunatic designers Thomas and Quentin, who are behind the utterly majestic Tumblr blog: Fat & Furious Burger.
Burger ice-creams, burger vampires, giant burger crabs and a meaty homage to the late Neil Armstrong are just some of the wild, weird and stupendously wonderful creations that the duo have presented on their blog, and it’s clear to see why said website has been causing so much of an online stir of late (their Big Mac® battle with fellow blog La Super Supérette particularly enjoyable).
The problem though? What looks fantastic, doesn’t always necessarily taste so good – which is where Parisian restaurant Blend (run by an equally patty-obsessed duo) comes in. Pioneering the hip-burger-joint™ trend in the home of gastronomy, Blend’s no-holds-barred approach to the dining experience is a perfect match for the design duo, and in the days leading up to the end of the Mayan calendar – the two burger obsessed duos collaborated on the rather mighty looking The End Burger.
Thanks to two innovative duos with a passion for slaying the norm, the future of America’s greatest culinary export looks rosy in Gay Paree – and with Fat & Furious’ Thomas and Quentin promising us more collaborations through 2013, Blend looks like becoming an essential stop off when visiting the French capital.
