A clever piece of work this, by Minnessotan artist Greg Gossel. What looks like a particularly well-decorated section of fly-postered walls, in which the flyers have been torn away to reveal a hidden beauty, is really a painstakingly constructed canvas collage. Gossel has previously used actual posters torn from walls and transplanted into his work, but in the Head Over Heels set he has begun to manufacture his own screen prints, layering them onto fashion photographs by Bryan Adams and Neave Bozorgi before artfully fucking them up to create the authentically weatherbeaten look.
The same layered prints crop up again and again throughout the series of 12 canvases, but to highlight the repetition effect you’ll need a gallery sized living room and deep pockets to pay for the set – they’re 72”x48” and $8,500 a piece. If that doesn’t pose a problem, place your order through White Walls. The San Francisco gallery is hosting the collection until 29th June.
