Newly fledged restaurateurs Clinton McDougall and Dane Brown have filled a gap in the market of Vancouver, with Bestie, which is introducing the delights of curried sausage and other finger-licking German street food to the Chinatown neighbourhood.
If there’s a touch of the DIY flat-pack furniture about the interior of Bestie, that’s because designers David and Susan Scott came up with an interior that could put together by the owners, who come from art and design backgrounds, using only a few tools and some man skills (aka simple, repetitive actions and a bit of heavy lifting). They added touches of flair from locals such as bar stools from Joji Fukushima and Fleet Objects’ Mariner lamps. The result is solid looking and functional, and didn’t cost an arm and a leg – rather like the food – and, keeping with the modular format, the tables can be rearranged to make room for events such as film screenings.
