Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines! There’s going to be a race for tables at Venice Eating House in the Waterloo district of Sydney when word gets out about the workshop looks and vintage machinery at the latest venture by Glen Davis, something of a Midas when it comes to Aussie hospitality.
The star attractions at the 1346 Building are five Crocker superbikes from the street racing days of 1930s Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles that their owner Chilli, as he’s fondly referred to, has proudly displayed inside a glass “vault” in his otherwise unflashy premises. Former Indian Motorcycles engineer Al Crocker went out on his own to make only 125 of the beautiful and lightning quick bikes, and only 66 remain today; this is the largest private collection. There’s also a vintage Harley and Indian on the dining floor – the Crocker’s direct competitors. Even if you are not a petrolhead there are still loads of good reasons to visit, among them some primo artisan refreshments such as Golden Cobra Coffee and Tea Craft Tea. And cake. There is cake.
