We’ve never met the folks from Market Lane Coffee in Melbourne, but we already know a fair bit about the blossoming chain and their philosophy – mainly from the introductory mission statement that’s plastered on the wall of their Victoria Market, Therry St branch in 300pt. We know they are nuts about beans, and they like a stripped down, much-less-is-more approach to their business.
Apart from that bit of informative decoration, there’s not much else to clutter up your field of view inside the handsome property that shares a common aesthetic with other outlets – the firm also has branches in the suburbs of Prahran and Carlton – with the emphasis placed firmly on the product. Coffee, coffee, and coffee paraphernalia line the slimline shelves, while the exposed brick inside has been whitewashed and left otherwise bare, apart from the black and white menu boards. The branding is also subtle, with some nice natural colours, especially on the information cards that explain all about the brew you are supping. One for the coffee purists, we’d say.
